Goodbye "Fantozzi": Italy cries the death of Paolo Villaggio (1932 - 2017)
Actor and writer Paolo Villaggio, one of the greats of Italian comedy, has died this morning at the age of 84. He is noted for his characters he created with paradoxical and grotesque characteristicas: Professor Kranz (watch here) the ultra-timid Giandomenico Fracchia (watch here and here) and the obsequious and meek accountant Ugo Fantozzi (here), perhaps the favourite character in Italian comedy. He authored several books, usually of satirical character.
Between 1968 and 2017, Villaggio worked on 83 films. He has received several cinema awards, including the David di Donatello (1990), the Nastro d'Argento (1994). In 1992 he became the first comic to win the Venice Film Festival's Golden Lion career award.
R.I.P. Paolo!!!
